Stolperstein for Kosciolek Jozef

Jozef Kosciolek was born on 17.1.1899 in Krakau, was married and worked as a locksmith. He lived with his family in Zabierzow, a village north of Krakau, and was deported to the German Reich for forced labor during the course of the Second World War. As a locksmith, he was forcibly conscripted and had to work for the Germans on the Reichsbahn. He was arrested by the Gestapo and died on 23.11.1943 in the Gestapo detention cell in Hofstallgasse 5, the main Gestapo headquarters in Salzburg. Why he was persecuted remains unclear, as well as whether it was possible that he hanged himself in the empty cell. It is, however, known that the Gestapo often gave falsified causes of death, so that they themselves would not bear the guilt for the deaths of the prisoners.
