Borovnica - Fallen Among NOB

Memorial plaques are part of the stone wall at the entrance to the school. On the left side are engraved verses, on the right framed part are the names of those who fell in the NOB from Borovnica and surrounding villages.

Borovnica has a rich pre-war workers' syndicalist and revolutionary history. Here, just before the war, the workers' cultural society Vzajemnost was active. Here, the party organization was founded in 1939, and here was the party conference for Notranjsko in 1940.

In the vicinity, the Borovniška četa was founded in 1941 and the Faškarska četa in 1942, later becoming the 2nd battalion of Ljube Šercer's. During the NOB, Borovnica was already hit in 1942 by the shelling of 16 shells, as a response by the occupier to the destroyed bridge over Ljubljanica. In the same year, the partisans in Kraljevi dolina attacked an Italian column. Pokojišče, Padež and Zavrh were burned and evacuated. Breg and Pako were evacuated. In 1944, the area was heavily damaged during two allied bombings of the railway viaduct.
