Monument to the National Hero Janez Hribar, Lož

Bronze standing statue of the national hero Janez Hribar, from 1972, is
placed on a flat, profiled stone pedestal.

His standing statue is located in front of the Kovinoplastika building, while he is
buried on the cemetery.

Janez Hribar, with the partisan name Tone Pogačnik, Slovenian communist, bearer
of the partisan memorial, political commissar, politician and national hero, * 4.
November 1909, Lož, † 23. October 1967, Vrhnika near Lož.

Hribar was before the war among the organizers of the Peasants' Youth and
Youth Association and the peasant-worker movement in Notranjska. In 1939 he
became a member of the KPS. After the occupation of Yugoslavia, he was among
the first organizers of the NOB, to which he also joined himself. Initially he was
deputy commander of the battalion (Šercerjev battalion), then he became political
commissar of Šercerjev battalion, Notranjska and Krimska detachments and
Šercerjev brigades, deputy political commissar of the 14th division, political
commissar of the 18th division and of the 9th and 7th corps. At the Council of
Delegates of the Slovene People in Kočevje he was elected to the plenum of OF
and to the Slovene delegation, which went to the II. Session of AVNOJ.

After the war he held several important political functions in the CK ZKJ and in
the government of LRS, in which he was among other things minister for
agriculture, minister without portfolio (until 1949) and president of the council
for agriculture and forestry of LRS (1951-1952). From 1945 to 1966 he was also
a member of the highest organs of ZKS and SZDL for several years. He was also
the initiator of the establishment of the company Kovinoplastika Lož.
