Hospital of the Gorjanski Battalion

In the Apennine Mountains, the 16th medical post was established in 1942.[1] It operated from June to September 1942, serving the soldiers of the Gorjanski bataljon.[2] It was located in the villa of a Zagreb native, which was similar to a sanatorium. It had three rooms and a kitchen and a veranda. According to the record of memorials and commemorative markers in the community of Šentjernej, the hospital may also have been attacked by the Italians, and the staff may have defended themselves alone, before the Gorjanski bataljon arrived for help. The hospital was partially supplied with medical supplies and food also by the Kartuzije Pleterje and its prior, Leopold Edgar Lavov.[3] The house, which is today owned by the Udovič family, is not protected as a memorial site and was later also rebuilt. The house is currently being renovated, so the commemorative marker is no longer located on the house.
