Memorial Plate of the Former Concentration Camp Klagenfurt-Lendorf

On the site of the present-day Khevenhüllerkaserne in Klagenfurt-Lendorf, there was a sub-camp of the Mauthausen concentration camp from 1943 until 1945. The building complex was constructed after the "Anschluss" to the National Socialism as an SS barracks, with the barrack for the concentration camp prisoners situated directly on the barracks courtyard and enclosed by barbed wire. The 80 to 130 male prisoners were forced to perform compulsory labor on the barracks grounds or on construction projects outside, as well as cleanup work in the city center after bombings. The memorial plaque on the outer wall of the barracks, to the right of the entrance gate, was unveiled in 2007 in the presence of the surviving prisoner Rajmund Pajer.
