BREZOVICA near Borovnica - memorial to Demšar and Zalar

A marble memorial plate 60 x 40 cm is embedded in the stone wall. The plate was unveiled around the year 1956, the letters, however, were renewed in July, 2005.
In 1942, the regional committee of the CPS was based in Šumnik near Brezovica. The Belogardists learned about the bunker and attacked it on 14.12.1942. In the battle, the secretary of the regional committee, a pre-war communist and pioneer, Anton Zalar-Žan, and his colleague Ivan Demšar - Jernej, lost their lives. Viktorija Kirn, however, was captured.
In memory of Anton Zalar-Žan, today there is Zalarjeva Street in Borovnica.
In memory of Ivan Demšar - Jernej, today there is Demšarjeva Street in Borovnica.
Both were buried in the cemetery in Borovnica.

Skozi vas Brezovica pri Borovnici do zadnjih hiš v vasi. Mimo vodohrama po gozdnih poteh približno 30 minut proti soteski Šumnika. Ob potoku po stezi navzdol približno 100 m. Pot ni označena in je na zadnjem delu nevarna. Ogleda brez vodiča ne priporočamo.
