Dolenje

Triangular marble column with an embedded marble plaque bearing the names of nine villagers and two couriers, who fell on 10th January 1944 as victims of the violence of the German occupier. The monument was unveiled on 22nd July 1957. The name of the third courier is unknown. The village, which had three houses at that time, was burned down by the Germans and rebels. The Germans numbered three truckloads, and the rebels, who had gathered in one of the houses, numbered a dozen. The Germans first burned three huts and then attacked. Nine rebels managed to escape. The Germans shot the owner of the house Stegnar, his sister and son, and the wife Vidi, who was seriously wounded, managed to escape. At the Kosmatinovs', six people were killed, including three children, aged from five to twelve; only the son Stefan, who was not at home, survived. The villagers dug up the victims from the ruins and, after a long struggle, obtained permission from the authorities for their burial on Rovah.
