Britof - Memorial to Fallen Firefighters

The memorial plaque at the Gasilsko Dom is considered the central monument of the NOB in this narrower area. Therefore, it is necessary to write a few of the most essential facts about the fallen fighters and partisans (apart from Kmet, Kern and Čimžar, who have their own memorial sites; their share in the NOB is outlined already at those places).

Method Žibert, born on 29 April 1927, joined the partisans on 18 May 1944. He fell on 19 August 1944 in a battle with the enemy on Krnu. He also has his grave there. – Ivan Roblek, born on 10 October 1926, joined the partisans on 21 January 1944. He fell on 21 August 1944 in a battle with the Germans on Kamniško Sedlo. After the liberation, his remains were moved to the cemetery in Predoslje. – Janez Bajželj, born on 5 August 1898, was initially interned on Rab; after the occupation of Italy, he joined the partisans. Because he was too exhausted, he became a field worker under the OF's orders in the area of Grosuplje. There, he was captured by the White Guards and shot on 24 November 1943 in Šmarj as a partisan. – Leopold Čimžar, born on 15 November 1915, was arrested as a Verona activist in Srednji Bitnje near Kranj. The Germans shot him on 31 January 1944 together with twenty-four other partisan fighters in Šentvid above Ljubljana.
