Memorial for Resistance and Liberation at Eduard-Wallnöfer-Platz Innsbruck

The French military government built a memorial that commemorates the resistance of the locals and the fallen Allied soldiers. The architect Jean Pascaud designed a sort of "victory gate," reflecting the central risalite of the former Gaue house. Tirol contributed Christian symbolism (emblems of the federal states in cross form) and patriotic signage (Tiroler eagle). The memorial was not opened in 1948. The ARGE LAAC/Stiefel Kramer/Christopher Grüner translated the Latin text of the Attika into German in 2011 and placed the names of the murdered resistance fighters on the narrow sides. Through the opening of the grid gates, the memorial includes all groups of the resistance, not only the Christian ones. In 2016, Grüner translated the Latin dedication into the languages of the Allied liberators. The QR code on a stele leads to a website with extensive information. The politics closed the gates again, but opens them several times a year.
