Cirkulane - Memorial to Maks Bračič - Removed

Basic
school in Cirkulanah was named after the partisan Maks Bračič from 1962 to 1992, as stated by the stone plaque on the school's façade.

It was placed at the suggestion of the committee of the Cirkulane Association of Fighters, and was unveiled on 1 January 1968. The plan for the plaque was prepared by Janez Rebernak, and it was carved by the stonemason Mrevlje from Ptuja. During the school's renovation, the plaque was removed, and a new one (prof. dr. Vladimir Bračič) was placed in its place, along with a bust of Vladimir Bračič on the base.

"Childhood years were spent in his home village, where he also attended elementary school. In 1934, he completed his secondary school diploma at the Ptuj Gymnasium and enrolled at the teacher training college in Maribor the same year. Due to the occupation, he transferred to the fourth year of the teacher training college in Ljubljana in 1941. That year, he worked with the youth of the Liberation Front (OF) in occupied Ljubljana and was a member of the OF committee at the teacher training college. In December, he fled to the underground before being arrested. In March 1942, he was captured during one of the raids and sentenced to five years in prison. The sentence was served in various prisons in Italy, where he was released in June 1944 due to illness. In September 1944, he rejoined the OF organization and went to the partisans. He became the assistant commissioner of the 18th Division's assault battalion. He was killed in April 1945 during battles in the Suha Krajina. In his honor, the elementary school in Cirkulanah was named, which was called Osnovna šola Maksa Bračiča Cirkulane from 1962 to 1992. In March 1945, he was awarded the Order of Bravery."
