Cikava, Memorial to the Fallen National Hero Jožet Kadunc-Ibarj

A commemorative plaque has been erected on the residential house at Cikavi, h. no. 6, with an engraved inscription. The inscription on the plaque from 16. 10. is not accurate, as the correct date is 23. 3.

Jože Kadunc-Ibar was born on 28. 4. 1925 in Predstrugah. After his birth, the family moved to Grosuplje, where Jože, after completing primary school, first worked as an agricultural worker. In April 1940, he was employed at the textile factory Motvoz and platno, where he worked until his departure to the partisans on 13. May 1942, when he was seventeen years old.

He first belonged to the II. group of units, then to the Western Dolenjski unit. Upon the establishment of the Gubčeva brigade in the beginning of September 1942, he transferred with his battalion to its composition and remained in it until his death. He was an fearless fighter. The news of being the best machine gunner of the Gubčeva brigade spread far among the partisan units. At the end of 1942, he was accepted into SKOJ. After several battles in which he proved himself, he became the leader of a unit. A few days before his death, he was appointed as the deputy commander of the battalion.

He was wounded several times and returned to his unit several times with unhealed wounds. His last battle was at Cikavi near Grosuplje, where he fell on 20. March 1944. After the liberation, he was transferred from there to the partisan cemetery in Grosuplje. He was proclaimed a national hero on 13. September 1952.

The commemorative plaque is 76 cm wide and 56 cm high, made of light marble, and has a recessed shape. Below it is a pedestal of 16 cm in length, 15 cm in width, and 15 cm in height. The inscription has recently been renewed.

It was unveiled on 29. October 1958.
