I am here from Iris Andraschek

As you walk through Krems, you come across painted carpets on the floor, which, partly still in bright white, partly already faded and worn, appear on sidewalks and squares. Using stencils and glue paint, the carpet images were applied to the floor.

The artistic work by Iris Andraschek from 2021, titled Ich bin hier, remembers Jewish women who were expelled and murdered by National Socialists from Krems and its surroundings.

Since the 1980s, the engagement with the history of National Socialism in Krems has primarily been carried out by private initiatives such as those by Robert Streibel. An initiative by kremskultur was the exhibition at museumkrems Wo sind sie geblieben? The Women of Krems, within which historians researched the life dates and places of residence of 105 women. The 105 differently patterned carpets were placed wherever they were documented, in front of the former residences of the women, and they indicate their names and biographical information.

It is a characteristic of glue paint that it will dissolve with weathering and the number of steps that pass over it. The explicit instruction not to renew the carpet images is part of the artistic work.
